I believe in power , I believe in kindness ,
I believe in acceptance . A teacher in
not only a person who enters to a class room and teaches the students the
materials found in books but a teacher is the one who teaches students life , who teaches them how love and
respect others and most of all how to be a valuable person in society .
Teachers are role models, they are not only information providers especially
English language teachers who establish the base for every other material.
As a school student , as a university
graduate student , as a current observer and as a future teacher I have realized how a
successful teacher should be, but as we all know we were born imperfect but we
as teachers and students can perfect each other . When a
teacher teaches students a second language she/he is teaching them a tool , a
tool that will allow them to achieve their goals and will allow them to express
who they are and most of all it will allow them to learn other things . If
students don’t acquire the English language right they would not be able to
learn Science , Math or Physics . An English teacher should provide students
with stones to build a good English language that serves them in future. To be
a perfect teacher can’t happen without the feedback of learners and to be a
good learner can’t happen without a teacher, your students need you to be
excellent students and you need them to be a great teacher. A successful
teacher teaches from her/his heart and she dedicates her/his youthful times to
educate different generations. As a young student I have always loved my
English teachers because they were different from other teachers , they cared ,
they wanted us to be perfect and they helped us to be who we are today . So I
preferred the English language or the English course to every other material Do
you know why ? It’s simple because they
valued us ,they made us feel that we are respected , and we felt that we are successful learners but most of all they CARED. In contrast to
other materials and to other teachers, I
hated the Arabic material because I didn’t love my Arabic teacher and I always
got bad grades in Arabic in contrast to English . So here we can see how a teacher can help
learners to like the material or not, or to succeed in it or not . So that,
it’s never enough to be a genius person with the highest grades ever , you need
to be close enough to students to make them value themselves and value their
Material .
We as teachers have a great power and we are
capable of affecting a whole generation of learners. A teacher should always
know that all students are able to learn and to understand but she/he must make
it possible for students to learn. As a teacher she/he must teach students that
what they are learning is not for the sake of getting high grades but it’s for
the sake to use it in their lives. In the English course there is always a
great number of targeted themes and these theme are most of the times purely humanistic:
tolerance acceptance, respect , family
love and other themes are empowering such as determination , perseverance and ambition . So this shows
that a teacher teaches students about life, how to respect others and how to be
a valuable person in society . Learners learn that we should not mock people
who have a disability , we should give a hand to those who are in need of help and we should be effective members in society
such s teachers lawyers and doctors.Also teachers ask students what do they want
to be when they grow up , they plant in
us the seeds of ambition and success . If teacher mocks her students who say
that he/she want to be an astronomer or she/he want to be a doctor , they are
not teachers . A teacher is the one who teaches students how to dream and how
to make a dream come true.
In my observation I have learned that a
successful teacher is the one who establishes a caring and respectful
relationship with her students . When a teacher politely asks students to stay
quiet or thanks them for being quiet and reinforces them when they do a great
job , students adapt these polite things automatically , they learn that we
should be polite to others no matter of our age or our rank , we must respect
others no matter what . As we learned in the motivation course a successful
teacher is the teacher that cares for her/his students and who motivates them
to learn intrinsically or extrinsically . A teacher should always care about
students learning , students should not be kicked out of class because they
made the teacher angry , but a teacher
who cares makes the students aware that they had done a certain mistake and she/he
keeps them in class because she/he doesn’t want them to miss anything .No
matter what, low expectations should not
be found in a teacher’s dictionary , always hold high expectation for your
students by making them believe that they are capable of achieving what they
want and don’t ever and never make students believe that they can’t do it . If
you believe they will believe. When a teacher respects students , students
learn to respect others and most of all
they learn to respect themselves because
she/he is their role model .All students must be accepted no matter of their
religions or their appearances. When we
accept others , our students learn to accept others too .
Every classroom
has a unique set of individuals that varies in their learning styles. My role
as a successful teacher is to implement different techniques in my classroom so
that students could absorb the needed information according to their different
styles . I will relate the curriculum to their lives and most of all I will
teach them strategies that will help them to be
better learners such as : reading
strategies , self regulated strategies . I will teach my learners everything that
I was banned from.
In brief , A successful teacher plants the
love of education in her students and she monitors the willingness to cooperate
through her group work techniques .A teacher should always be aware of every
word , every action and every step she/he makes because she/he is students’
role model and how she/he treats the student , they will treat others . I am
very excited to start my teaching career and I am ready to leave a positive
finger print in every student I will teach.
